Hick's Law
This is why your swing thoughts should be kept to a minimum. Hicks law is a psychological principle that postulates that your reaction time is relative to the number of decisions you make. Your reaction time will increase by a constant (approximately 120 milliseconds) when your decisions are doubled.

If have one thought your reaction time will be approximately 190 milliseconds. If you have two thoughts your reaction time will increase to 310 milliseconds. If you have four decisions to make then your reaction time will increase to 430 milliseconds.

This also makes a case for processing your information in pictures rather than words. It is much more efficient to process pictures than it is words. Therefore it stand to reason that your reaction time will also be faster when processing pictures. Think when you practice and also practice seeing your swing. Visualize your technique.

Do not talk yourself through the swing. See yourself through it instead.
