The Ben Hogan swing remains the MODEL to this day!
When the right elbow stays so close to his side it allows and encourages him to rotate through the shot very rapidly.
 Think about this:

Hogan wrote in the introduction to "Power Golf " in 1948: (paraphrase)

When you pick a club with the objective of striking a golf ball every natural instinct

you have to accomplish that task is wrong, absolutely wrong. If you swing the club

exactly opposite of every instinct you then have an excellent chance to making

an excellent swing.

Hogan wrote in "Five Lessons, the Modern fundamentals" in 1957:

The reason that the Golf Professional hits the ball so much further than the amateur

player is, the professional player takes his five iron and turns it into a four iron.

The amateur player takes a five iron and turn it into a seven.

This is an apt description of the most significant

difference between the effective and ineffective player.
